When I was thinking about this show, originally it was going to be called the Interesting Show.
I'm not quite sure what made me changed my mind. I'm glad I did though. All kinds of businesses catch my eye, or ear or indeed I try a service and think, hey, this is pretty darn good.
These Remarkable Businesses deserve more customers because there are many unremarkable ones out there.
I'm interested in the businesses that are doing something different and really making their customers smile. It could be the product. It might be the service. Or, it could be that they are changing an old, entrenched market and causing a frown amongst the lazy incumbents.
A nice way of thinking about these businesses is word of mouth, still without doubt, the best form of marketing. You hear about these businesses quickly from friends and colleagues (and yes, social media allows this to happen very quickly).
One aspect of a Remarkable Business that is often overlooked is actually not what they sell.
It's the people who work in the business. I am convinced that if the owner / founder / MD creates a remarkable environment, it allows a business a fighting chance to be special.
Scandalously, this does not happen very often.
Politics, infighting, egos and bullshit are littered amongst the unproductive wasteland of many businesses.
It is always a choice which the people at the top have to make. They and only they are responsible for the culture that is set within their company, large or small.
What is always exciting is the possibility of your business, the one that you are thinking of starting.
You have every opportunity to make it a Remarkable Business, both for your customers and the people who your work with.
I hope you enjoy the interviews in the Show. There are plenty more to come. I'd love to hear what you think or indeed, if you know of any businesses and people who would be a great fit for the show.
Thank you for reading and listening.
